Dior will launch a beautiful (purple-toned!) collection for holiday 2009. (The color scheme seems to be a continuation from the fall 2009 collection.) The star item of the season is Cristal Boreale, which is a pendant containing a lip gloss and is embellished with 52 Swarovski crystals. Since Lady Dior in Spring, I haven’t picked up any item from Dior. But it is almost certain that I am going to use my Boots points on Cristal Boreale.

Also, I have never come across the gorgeous Lilas Addict collection in person in the UK, but the lovely purple 5-Color Iridescent Eyeshadow and Cristal Boreale Eyeshadow (above) should make up for it.

Here is a quick look at the rest of the collection:

I can’t wait to see the collection in person!

Dior Fall 2009 Makeup Collection

in -Dior, 2009 Fall, makeup

(images from www.iswii.net)

I am sure most of you have seen or tried items from Dior’s Jazz Club fall 2009 makeup collection. Here is a quick look at the lineup, and hopefully it might be helpful for your future references.

The new items include:

– Dior Jazzclub (2 variations)

– 5-Colour Eyeshadow (1 new variation)

– 2-Color Eyeshadow (1 new variation)

– Diorliner (1 new shade)

– Diorshow Brow Styler (1 new shade)

– Diorblush (1 new variation)

– Dior Addict High Color (4 new shades)

– Rouge Dior Crème de Gloss (2 new shades)

– Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect (2 new shades)

– Contour Lip Liner (1 new shade)

– Dior Vernis (2 new shades)

– Diorskin Poudre Libre (1 new shade)

The star item, Dior Jazzclub, looks quite chic and there are some nice colors in both palettes. But I don’t think I will be picking up either of the variations since I personally think the designs of Dior Diorissime and Dior Detective Chic palettes (from fall 2007 and fall 2006, respectively) appeals to me more and the colors suit me better. (Dior Detective Chic is a multi-toned face powder.)

Dior Summer 2009 Makeup Collection

Foundation Face-Off: Dior vs. Esprique Precious

{ 6 comments }

The weather in the UK in the last couple of weeks has been pleasantly warm on the whole, so it seems to be a good time to count down my favorite summer 2009 makeup collections. (Let’s hope that the good weather will continue.)

10. Paul & Joe

(image from www.paul-joe-beaute.com)

Paul & Joe’s summer 2009 collection captures the beach holiday feel with gold-toned neutrals and soft cool pinks for eyes, lips and nails. The wearable colors have a subtly vibrant look, and I like the limited-edition champagne gold packaging.

9. Dior

(image from www.dior.com)

With the launch of the Lilas Addict collection (in some countries) and the new 5-Color Design Eyeshadow palettes, Dior’s summer 2009 collection seems a little drowned among all the new products. The seasonal star item, Dior Cristal Shine, is a slight disappointment for me, since it doesn’t have the luxurious feel that many of Dior’s past star items have. The real stars of this collection for me are the two 5-Color Iridescent Eyeshadow palettes. The cool-toned iridescent shades look vivid and edgy.

8. RMK

(image from www.rmkrmk.com)

RMK’s renewal collection was released in time for summer 2009. I like the fact that the 35 shades of Ingenious Powder Eyes are categorized into five groups: DR (Dark), BR (Brown), P (Pearly), SH (Shimmery), and ME (Metallic). I particularly like the dimensional finish of the SH shades I tested at the counter. Also, if you like very sparkly eyeshadows, the ME shades are a must-see. They are seriously sparkly. (They are definitely more sparkly than metallic.)

7. Elégance

(image from www.elegance-cosmetics.com)

Many Japanese beauty brands release colorful items for summer, and Elégance’s summer 2009 collection is a good example. The new Lustre Crush Eyes looks very lovely. (Many Japanese consumers seem to see blue and green as summer colors for eyes.) Since it is not a limited-edition item, I am hoping that there will be more shades in the future.

Please check out Part 2 and Part 3.

Spring 2009 Makeup Top 10: Part One, Two & Three

It has been over a year since my last Foundation Face-Off, and I hope you will enjoy this long overdue addition. Today I am taking you through two spring/summer 2009 releases: Dior’s Snow Whitening UV Compact (White Reveal UV Shield Makeup) and Beauté de Kosé Esprique Precious’ Dramatical Stay Pact UV EX. The two trial samples are from the April and May 2009 issues of Biteki.

(I have oily skin that is prone to slight redness. I prefer powder foundations that control shine well, offer at least medium coverage and have decent pore coverage. I don’t usually wear a primer or a concealer. I have a light-to-medium complexion and ZA Two-Way Foundation in 22 is one of my ideal shades. (I haven’t used MAC foundations for a very long time so I don’t know which shade is currently the closest to my complexion.))

Basics

– Dior Snow Whitening UV Compact (White Reveal UV Shield Makeup): SPF 30, PA +++, 6 shades (shade tested: 020)
– Beauté de Kosé Esprique Precious Dramatical Stay Pact UV EX: SPF 25, PA ++, 7 shades (shade tested: OC-410)

Both shades are lighter than ZA Two-Way Foundation in 22.

Finish

The two differ quite a lot in finish. Dior has a luminous and glowy finish, while Esprique Precious has a soft matte finish which is only very subtly luminous. Neither has visible shimmer.

Texture

Dior has a soft velvety texture, while EP has a slightly drier feel (which is far from chalky). Both go on evenly and smoothly.

Coverage

Both have a light-to-medium coverage, but Dior has marginally more coverage. With Dior, I feel that the coverage is more based on the luminous semi-transparent light-reflective powder than on opaque pigment. One thing I don’t like about this is that, as I have applied the powder evenly and then look straight at the mirror, the coverage looks sufficient on the forehead, chin and top of the cheeks (wherever the light hits straight on and creates the coverage) but the sides of my nose and the sides of my face (where the light bounces off sideways from where I can see) seem to get almost no coverage.

Even though this type of coverage creates more dimension for the face and should please some people (as the powder emulates a shading effect), I prefer EP’s soft-focus and even-looking coverage.

Pore Coverage

Dior’s luminous and glowy powder can exaggerate the look of pores. On the other hand, EP has a decent pore coverage.

Shine Control

Again, Dior’s glowy finish can make shine more pronounced overtime. EP has a fairly good shine control.

Staying Power

Dior does have a reasonably good staying power (with all the blotting), but I am more impressed with EP’s lasting ability. It can be a little hard to tell how the coverage and finish last since they are on the natural side, but, after a whole day, there is no patchiness and my skin tone still looks very even.

Overall, Dior reminds me of Primavista’s Powder Foundation Moist Touch and Esprique Precious reminds me of Coffret D’Or’s Beauty Lasting Pact UV. (Coffret D’Or has slightly better shine control). For me, between Dior and Esprique Precious, Esprique Precious is the obvious winner. If it had more coverage, it would definitely be a product I’d consider buying.

You can read my friend Betsy’s review of Esprique Precious Dramatical Stay Pact UV EX on Autumn Masquerade.

Earlier I wrote about Dior’s Lilas Addict Collection in France (which includes the 5-Color Iridescent Eyeshadow in 129 Pearly Lilac that is available in the US). Now, according to Voce, the collection will be available in Japan on June 5th.

Now I am even more seriously hoping that Pearly Lilac will make its way to the UK…

Dior Lilas Addict Collection

(image from beauty.dior.com/fra)

One reader, CedriCeCCentriC, kindly left a comment under my post on Dior’s summer 2009 makeup collection and brought my attention to the Lilas Addict collection on the Dior France website. (Thank you very much!) Some of the items here look gorgeous, and the name of the collection echoes my love (or addiction?) for lilac shades……

The collection includes new shades of Addict High Shine, Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect and Dior Vernis. The eyeshadow palette in the photo appears to be the 129 Pearly Lilac that is a Neiman Marcus exclusive in the US. (Many thanks to Betsy at Autumn Masquerade for letting me know this a while ago.) It reminds me very slightly of Coffret D’Or 3D Lighting Eyes in Purple Variation.

I would love to see Pearly Lilac in person, but I am not entirely sure at the moment whether it will be available in the UK. I certainly hope so, and I will update this post when I have more information.

Just a year after the launch, Coffret D’Or has become one of my favorite makeup lines. Among the spring 2009 collection, the new palette range, Shine Accent Eyes, includes another array of pretty and wearable colors. The palettes don’t have an intense eyelining shade, but I can do without it for my daytime makeup. I am planning to getting 02 Pink Variation, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you.

2. Dior

(image from www.dior.com)

For me, the star of Dior’s spring 2009 collection is obviously the Lady Dior palette. However, the collection has other gorgeous items, including some soft milky neutrals. Both 5-Color Eyeshadow in Elégante and 5-Color Iridescent Eyeshadow in Parisian Lights are beautiful and very covetable. This is a collection that shows that neutrals don’t have to be dull.

1. Lunasol

(image from www.nikkei.co.jp)

(Lunasol Layer Bloom Eyes palettes)
(image from www.kanebo-cosmetics.jp/lunasol)

Lunasol has always been a front runner for me among the spring 2009 collections. Since the Red Purification collection in fall 2008, Lunasol has gone full circle and returned to the more sophisticated look that Lunasol started off with in 1999. The spring 2009 Floral Purification collection is less shimmery than the Brilliance Purification collection in fall 2007 (featuring Geminate Eyes palettes) and less vibrant than the Color Purification collection in spring 2008 (featuring Sheer Contrast Eyes palettes). While some of those who fell in love with Lunasol in the last couple of years might not find this collection as appealing, I do think this is one of Lunasol’s finest seasonal collections.

The Purple Variation palette is now on my way, and I will be posting my thoughts later on.

Dior 5-Color Design Eyeshadow Palettes

by PJ on Tuesday, March 10, 2009

(image/info from www.joseishi.net/voce)

(image/info from www.cosme.net)

Dior has released a new range of 5-color eyeshadow palettes in Japan, which are called 5 Couleurs (5-Color) Design (as opposed to 5-Color and 5-Color Iridescent). (The full name is 5 Couleurs Design All-in-One Artistry Palette.)

Four variations are in the initial lineup. Two of them have already been released (408 and 508) alongside the launch of Pro Eye Creators.

The range features tone-on-tone palettes. The main difference from the existing Dior eyeshadow palettes is that the darkest shade in each palette is a cream eyeliner. One of the two applicators included in the compact has a flat brush for applying the cream eyeliner.

The other two variations will be released in Japan on April 10th.

The Lady Dior palette is part of Dior’s spring 2009 collection, and it is certainly among the most expensive makeup items I have ever bought.

I saw it in person last month, and the long decision process began. My first impressions were not all good, mainly because I had high expectations for Dior’s most expensive seasonal limited-edition item to date (68.5 pounds). First of all, it was smaller than I expected. (The bottom (6.7cm) is slightly wider than the top (6.3cm), and the side measures 5.4cm.) Secondly, I didn’t like the acrylic parts attached to the handles.

My indecision was also surrounded by the fact that I didn’t have enough Boots points for this. If I had gathered enough at the time (which has usually been the case), I would probably have got it sooner.

However, I did think it was overall very beautiful and that it was among the most visually appealing items from Dior. Also, Lady Dior bag and the doctor bag are my two favorite bag designs from Dior, and it was nice to see one of them as the inspiration for a makeup item.

While trying to make a decision, I found some information on the Lady Dior bag and I was reminded that some of the classic versions do have acrylic handles. (Then I stopped fussing…) Also, with all Lady Dior bags, “CD” was stamped on all the oval parts to which the handles are attached (and you can see them in the photos above). Based on these, as well as the obvious quilting and the “DIOR” charms, it does seem that quite a few details are replicated on this palette.

Finally, after I saw the palette at the counter for three times and twice nearly decided not to buy it, I decided to get it. (I also decided to delete a few items on my makeup shopping list.)

The palette comes in a drawstring pouch, and a chain is attached to the palette. It can be too heavy if you want to use it as a bag charm or a key chain. But I am only displaying it on my dressing table, so I actually prefer it to be even heavier for an even more luxurious and substantial feel.

The two sides of the palette attach to each other magnetically. Inside the palette are a mirror, a lip/cheek color and a highlighter. French Chic (002) features an off-white pink with a pale-gold undertone and a warm red. (In the UK, two shades are available (001 and 002). I find that the lip/cheek shade in 001 to be too peachy for me. On the other hand, 001 and 003* are sold in Asia. The lip/cheek shade in 003 is the coolest of the three.)

Both colors are cream-based (not cream-to-powder-based) and they glide relatively well. The highlighter mainly adds shimmer rather than color. (The finish is more intense than what Dior Night Diamond creates.) The lip/cheek shade can go from sheer to intense depending on how much is layered. It has a moist and dewy finish and isn’t too shimmery. (This is based on the testing at the counter. I think I will leave the palette unused for some time until I want to dig in.)

Sold at such a price, it is clearly more of a collector’s item rather than just a makeup product…and I did buy it as someone that enjoys collecting Dior’s limited-edition items that I like. However, I have a feeling that, as a whole, the prices of Dior’s future limited-edition items are likely to continue to go up, partly because it seems that Dior is trying to be even higher-end than it is now. I was thinking to myself that there would probably be a time when I might have to stop collecting them simply because they are too expensive.

In the meantime, it is still handy to have all my Boots points ready. We never know what Dior is going to come up with next…

(For another review of this item (also in 002), please head over to Beauty Anonymous.)

(*003 is also called French Chic, but the colors are different. For a review of it, please check out the post on My Women Stuff.)
