A Touch of Blusher’s New Home

by PJ on Friday, July 23, 2010

(Hopefully it will look better soon…)

a

If you are reading this, then you are on my new site!

First of all, I apologize for not posting any new article for the last 10 days. The migration has been a very stressful experience. However, it is a tremendous learning experience as well. As some of you might know, WordPress is quite different from Blogger. For me, it is a little bit like learning to blog all over again.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew, Betsy, Carla, Carleen, Lynn and The Muse for their advice, patience and moral support. I wouldn’t be writing this post on my new site without their help.

Now that the basic layout is set up, I will start posting new articles very soon. I will also finish up the sections in the menu bar at the top of the blog and gradually improve the look of the blog.

Among my future articles will be reviews on Coffret D’Or, Paul & Joe, Lavshuca, Burberry Beauty, L’Occitane, and Kanebo Sensai.

Do bookmark the new site, and I’ll see you again soon!

Migration Update

by PJ on Sunday, July 18, 2010

in announcement

My blog migration has been in progress.

However, I have been having a couple of technical issues. The new blog has not been able to import all the comments from this blog. Based on the information that I have come across, this seems to be a common problem with those who are moving their blogs from Blogger to self-hosted WordPress blogs.

I have been trying different ways around it. If nothing works, I will still go ahead with the URL re-direction and then I will import the comments manually.

Announcement: Change of URL

by PJ on Tuesday, July 13, 2010

in announcement

(One last look…)

After more than three and a half years on Blogger, I will be moving my blog to WordPress and a new webhost in the next couple of days. This is mainly for the purpose of having more control of my blog domain and design. Also, I want to minimize the risk of what happened last August happening again.

After the move, you will be automatically re-directed to my new blog/URL when you log on to this URL (atouchofblusher.blogspot.com). If you have my blog bookmarked in your web browser or if you have a link to my blog on your blogroll, I would appreciate it if you would kindly update the URL.

If you are a follower of my blog (from Blogger), I am assuming that you will be re-directed to my new URL as well.

If you are a subscriber of my blog posts, you shouldn’t have to do anything and all my new posts should continue to be delivered to you.

I will disable comments temporarily while I prepare for the migration. You will be able to leave comments again on my new blog.

In situations where I am not able to inform you of problems with the migration on my old/new blogs, I will post updates and announcements on my Twitter page.

Hopefully the move will go smoothly!

A Touch of Blusher is three years old!

by PJ on Saturday, November 7, 2009

in announcement, blog anniversary

I hope you will enjoy the cupcakes! (I just had one…)

So far, 2009 has been a hectic year for me. Many of you who have been reading my blog in the last couple of years might have noticed that my posts have been a little less frequent (particularly compared with 2008). What I have been trying to do is to blog slightly less frequently (but still regularly) so that hopefully I don’t have to feel that I need to stop blogging all together. This means sometimes I might not be able to reply to comments or e-mails as promptly as I would like to, but I hope you will still enjoy stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me.

Let’s take a look back at the last twelve months of A Touch of Blusher:

November 2008
I talked about the upcoming trends in Japanese makeup.

December
I tried out Eyelash Curler, one of SUQQU’s best-selling items.

January 2009
From My Treasure Chest series was launched.

February
I shared my thoughts on Dior’s Lady Dior (after I finally decided to get it).

March
I loved all your comments and thoughts on my Japanese Base Makeup Week series.

April
Speculation and anticipation can be very exciting.

May
I reviewed items from British new makeup line Illamasqua.

June
Another Foundation Face-Off.

July
I posted an update on my daytime moisturizer.

August
I added another lilac palette to my collection.

September
Lavshuca’s new Finish Powder didn’t disappoint me.

October
Jill Stuart’s Jelly Eye Color N in 08 Crystal Sky is a shade I didn’t have before.

Since the end of the three-week downtime of my blog a couple of months ago, I have been thinking about whether I want to move to another blog host and possibly own my .com domain. It would be quite a big move, and I have been gathering information in order to make informed choices. I will keep you guys posted.

Some of you (especially if you are US-based bloggers) might be aware of the updated guides concerning endorsements and testimonials set out by the US Federal Trade Commission (which will go into effect on December 1st, 2009). You can read the guides here.

According to the guides, bloggers who receive free products to review on their blogs will need to disclose, in a clear and conspicuous manner, that they receive these products. This also applies to bloggers who receive monetary compensation for posting an article on their blogs. (Carleen at Beauty and Fashion Tech has written a very informative article on this. You can also read the shorter version here.)

I am not a US-based blogger, so I am assuming these guides do not apply to me. (But I could be wrong, since Blogger, which hosts my blog, is US-based) However, I do think it is a good idea for all boggers to be more conspicuous about the disclosure.

For the past two years or so (of my nearly three years of blogging), there has been a statement at the end of my blog about reviews of products that I receive from cosmetics companies (and about which articles are reviews of such products). From now on, reviews of products that I receive from cosmetics companies or PR firms will include disclosures within the articles.

(A side note: I have never received monetary compensation for my blog articles and I do not write paid (sponsored) posts.)

Blog Back Up

by PJ on Thursday, September 3, 2009

in announcement

I would like to apologize to all my readers for disappearing for the past 20 days. On August 13th, I discovered that there were malware issues with the BlogLinker blogroll widget that I was using. Despite the fact that I removed the widget (which I am no longer using) as soon as I discovered the issues, Blogger still took down my blog the next day. My blog was finally back up earlier today after I sought help from Blogger.

I would like to thank all the readers who e-mailed me to express their concerns and support. I am very grateful. Also, I would like to thank Betsy at Autumn Masquerade for posting my message and Nutty at Nutsaboutmakeup for linking to it. I am also thankful for the friendly support from BA at Beauty Anonymous, Kia at Yummy411 (I hope her blog goes back up soon) and The Muse at Musings of a Muse.

Since there was no way to communicate with all my readers during the downtime, I decided to sign up for Twitter just in case something similar happens again. (You can follow my tweets here.) I won’t be twitting very regularly but I will still try to make my (beauty-related) tweets worth following. (One thing I might do is to mention upcoming posts in my tweets.)

Also, I am considering moving to another webhost. (I really don’t want to have a downtime like this again.) I will keep you all posted.

My next post will be up in the next couple of days.

My post on Lunasol’s fall 2009 collection has been updated with more item photos. There is one photo of the limited-edition Star Dust on Eyes, which looks very sparkly.

This marks the 1000th post on A Touch of Blusher. I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has been following my blog. You have helped me make it this far!

To me, one of the most fascinating aspects of Japanese cosmetics is the generally outstanding quality of the base makeup*.

In the first week of March, I will be posting five articles on Japanese base makeup. These posts are largely based on the questions that I have often been asked in the past two years by readers new to or interested in Japanese makeup. I hope these articles will be helpful to some of you as well as any future reader who might have similar questions.

The first article will go up on Monday March 2nd. If you have any question on Japanese base makeup or suggestions on what you would like to see covered, please feel free to leave a comment or send me an e-mail.

Thank you very much, and stay tuned!

* In Japan, “base makeup” (or “base make”) refers to items applied before any color is added. They include primers, concealers, foundations, highlighting/contouring items, and loose/pressed powder. With some Japanese brands, they can also include delicately pigmented blushers.

Items featured in the photo:

Jill Stuart Moist Silk Foundation

Paul & Joe Light Cream Foundation

Anna Sui Fluid Foundation

(One for you, one for me.)

In so many ways, I feel that the last 12 months have passed by so quickly…

Today is my blog’s second anniversary. I’d like to say thank you to everyone that has stopped by my blog and to all my regular readers. Blogging is so much more fun and fulfilling when I know that there are people interested in what I have to say.

My life has been getting busier since two years ago, but I always try to make sure I share what I see and what I think with you as much as I can. Occasionally, I fear that one day I might run out of thoughts and ideas, but your e-mails and comments keep me inspired.

Like last year, please let me take you through the past 12 months of A Touch of Blusher:

November 2007
This is (still) the only eyelash curler I ever need.

December
A Touch of one of my all-time favorite blushers.

January 2008
Coffret D’Or was launched in December, and 3D Lighing Eyes is the first item on my growing list of Coffret D’Or stash.

February
Finally, ck Calvin Klein Beauty was here in the UK.

March
I talked about whitening skincare products in one of my longest posts.

April
My favorite hand cream was revamped.

May
Some napkins appeared on my blog…

June
Blogging brings like-minded people together, as Lynn echoes my fondness in blue-toned goodies.

July
As summer arrived, I took you beauty-shopping in Tokyo.

August
Raycious is gone but not forgotten.

September
I dived into my blusher collection.

October
Out with Raycious, in with Primavista.

As I went through my posts in the past year, I almost felt that I had only written some of them yesterday. This, among other things, reminds me of how I have been enjoying writing about my passion.

There will be more things to come on my blog, and I will start a new series very soon. Do keep an eye on my future posts!

Thank you very much for sharing my joy, and have a great weekend!

(Enjoy!)

Beauty Blog Network’s Comments for a Cure 2008

by PJ on Monday, October 13, 2008

in announcement

(button design by Teri Cosenzi
at Aging Beautiful and Beautiful Makeup Search)

Last June, members of The Beauty Blog Network joined together for Comments for a Cure to raise money for cancer-related charities. This year, we decided to do it again in October, the Beast Cancer Awareness month.

As with last year, for every comment that you leave on A Touch of Blusher (under this post or any other post) on the 13th (today), 14th and 15th, I will donate 1 USD (up to 30 USD in total) to Cancer Research UK, which is the word’s leading independent organization dedicated to cancer research.

Please check out The Beauty Blog Network Comments for a Cure page for all the participating blogs (which start the Comments for a Cure on various dates) and the chip-in widget where you can make your own donation.

Please also check out Beauty and Fashion Tech, Girl Gloss and Raging Rouge, which are holding the Comments for a Cure event from today as well. In addition, Makeup Moxie‘s and Christina Loves‘ Comments for a Cure events are lasting all the way until the end of this month.

Please do kindly take time to leave your comment, and thank you very much for all your support!
