The return of Ring Rouge in the Rouge Collection (seen above) is what made this collection special. For me, like the princessy loose powder, Ring Rouge defines the brand. While most Japanese brands release neural shades for the holiday season, the rest of Anna Sui’s collection features very bouncy colors, which is what we’ve come to expect from the brand.

5. Coffret D’Or

(image from www.nikkei.co.jp)

Coffret D’Or has done very well in 2008, and its first holiday collection continues to impress many makeup fans. I like the fact that the packaging incorporates the usual Coffret D’Or look but with a small twist. The neutral-toned and purple-toned palettes reflect the key trends for this holiday season. (I did nearly decide to get the purple-toned one…)

4. Lunasol

(image from www.kanebo-cosmetics.jp/lunasol/)

Lunasol’s recent holiday makeup sets have been criticized for the lack of imagination and color. (They usually include a neutral-toned eye palette and a few other items to go with them, and the palettes seem to look similar year after year.) This year’s version is again similar, but it does take on elements of red and burgundy, which are part of the makeup trend for fall this year. They make this set a little more special and memorable. Also, I almost always prefer a clutch bag or purse in a makeup set to a box (as in last year’s version).

The holiday 2008 countdown finishes in Part 3.

The Anna Sui Cosmetics website has been updated to feature the second part of the holiday 2008 collection. All items are limited editions and will be released in Japan on December 4th. (See part one of the collection here.)

The collection will include two sets of Rouge Collection. The once very popular (and later discontinued) Ring Rouge will make an appearance in each of the two sets. It is paired with a special edition of Mini Rouge, with an added charm. They are presented in the Original Jewelry Box.

Also in the second part of the holiday collection is Beauty Mirror (Rose) W, which will please some of those who collect Anna Sui’s beauty accessories.

Anna Sui Cosmetics has updated its website to feature the holiday 2008 collection, which will be released in Japan on November 6th. The collection includes bright colors very typical of Anna Sui, instead of neutrals that many other Japanese brands release for the holiday season.

The lineup includes:

Eye Color Accent S (three variations)

Color Powder (four new shades)

Nail Color Collection 2008 (two versions)

The Eye Color Accent S and Nail Color Collection 2008 are limited-edition items.

The website also has a new wallpaper and screen saver available for downloading for a limited period of time.

Updated on November 24th:

Second part of the collection.

6. Anna Sui

(image from www.annasui-cosmetics.com)

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its makeup line, Anna Sui has brought out Makeup Color Collection D as well as a new range of nail colors. (Please check this post for relevant information and a link to some actual photos of the makeup set.) Pricey as it is, it is one of those ultimate collectible items and I think it will only get more expensive as we come across it on auction sites.

5. Paul & Joe

(image from www.paul-joe-beaute.com)

Paul & Joe has been releasing the seasonal Sparkles collections in the past few years with original prints from designer Sophie Albou’s fashion collections. I don’t always love all the prints or the colors, but I like the overall look of this collection. I had a chance to test the items at the counter, and almost all the colors are pleasantly elegant and wearable. I was thinking about buying the eyeshadow and the lipstick in the cases with the pink bouquet print, but I personally think the print photographs slightly better than it looks in reality.

You can check out this blog post for more photos of some of the items.

4. Kesalan Patharan

(image from www.kesalanpatharan.co.jp)

Some of you might be surprised at Kesalan Patharan‘s 4th-place finish since I wasn’t overly impressed by the Eye Color Palatte in S007 that I bought and reviewed. But I think this reflects my view that there aren’t many outstanding makeup collections for fall 2008 and this well-constructed lineup is good enough to secure a spot in my top ten. (The collection also features three coordinating lipsticks and two blushers.) This is Kesalan Patharan’s rare appearance in my top ten.

Check out the final part of the countdown!
